In the Grampion Mountains near Aberdeen we found Braemar Castle. Braemar has been the ancestral home of the Clan Farguharson for over 200 years. It was built in 1928 on the top of an older fortification. This castle is a beautiful structure with many towers and bartizans on every corner. It even boasts a dark unventilated dungeon or pit prison. An impressive feature of this castle is the star-shaped curtain or wall built around the exterior. Inside the wall we found an attractive garden to explore before we ventured inside the castle. A very friendly Highland Terrier greeted us and posed for our cameras. We loved this castle and enjoyed our visit. Braemar Castle is privately owned. It has been very nicely restored and is open for tours at specified times. |
