Glamis Castle ranks among the most majestic castles I have seen. I could not help but catch my breath when the castle first came into my view and it certainly held me under its spell while I was visiting. Glamis has a fourteenth century keep with alterations and extensions added in the sixteenth century. The castle was also extended in the seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. It has lovely turrets, bartizans and dormers. Though it is a sprawling castle built over several centuries it blends together into a lovely cohesive structure fit for royalty. The castle is located near the village of Glamis, which is about 5 miles from Forfar, Scotland. It is the childhood home of HM the late Queen Elizabeth, the queen Mother and is the birthplace of HRH Princess Margaret. This castle has also the legendary setting of Shakespeare’s play "Macbeth". After we took our photographs we browsed through the museum and exhibits. Of special interests were the items and photographs of the Queen Mother’s childhood. This is an excellent place for anyone to visit and especially those interested in castles. |
